If you're regularly using MyZone, you'll know how motivating it is, and how easy it is to keep track of what you're doing.
But there's a handy hack - you can make a simple tweak, and create a bit more of a challenge for yourself and then bag the results.
If you go into your MyZone app, and select 'MyStats' right at the bottom of the screen, you'll see there are two dials at the top (or it might be a tick if you've achieved the goals later in the month). One is for your monthly status, and this doesn't change. This is decided by MyZone and it's in line with the World Health Organisation guidelines for the recommended amount of physical activity we should be doing each month.
The other one on the right is your monthly target. Usually this will be set to the lowest level when you register your belt (1300 MEPs) - but you're missing a serious trick if you leave it there. You can personalise your monthly target and use it as a way of increasing your activity and therefore your results. This is an easy way to work towards greater results
So, what should your target be? Everyone's different, so you're going to need to look at your historic data. If you scroll further down this same screen, you'll see your MEP record, and you can see your MEPs for the week, month, year, or total. Go ahead and select 'total'.
The gold vertical line you see is where the monthly status is set. You can't change this. However, the blue vertical line is your monthly target - this is what we're going to change.
There are various ways to set this:
1. Go for an average - scroll down through the history and see how many MEPs are average for you, and set that as your target so you'll never fall below your average.
2. Pick your best month for total MEPs, and set that as your target.
3. Set an increase. This is what I've done - on average I get 6400 MEPs per month, but I want more for myself, so I've taken my average and added on 10% (easy, just multiply your average by 1.1) this is going to stretch me a little bit further, but it's a manageable, easy win. You can see my monthly target is now much higher.
Don't be overly ambitious
The power is in winning, over and over again. It's good for your ego, and it's good for your brain - and good for keeping you motivated. That's why you need to set a target that's going to be manageable for you but requires that little extra push.
If you're happy with your results so far, and want to maintain what you have, you'll be looking at maintaining an average number of MEPs as your monthly target. If you want a bit more - you'll want to increase it, either with option 2 or 3.
