I have too! (Not at Fox though, obviously!)
What did you not like? Shouty instructors? Weird choreography? An impersonal experience? Feeling like everyone's fitter than you? Working really hard and then not seeing results? Feeling exposed? Feeling like no one understands?
Yep, been there. My first ever session felt like a milllion years, I was not confident enough to pedal out of the seat like everyone else, I tried to hide at the back - despite the bright lights, the instructor didn't set me up on my bike or introduce himself, I didn't know what to do or how to do it, and it was just plain haaaard. Turns out I was pedalling with way too much resistance on - but I had no way of knowing at the time.
Rather strange then, you might think, that I now run a cycling studio. And you'd be right - it's weird. But indoor cycling when done properly (which it most frequently isn't) is a beautiful thing. And it works. Hurrah for that.
And I think you'll enjoy Fox because:
There's nothing quite like trying as hard as you can and having an instructor trashing your efforts, is there? Fox instructors will never do that. We choose instructors who are kind, friendly, and are keen to help you have a good time.
Choreography has no place in indoor cycling. There are some things that are done elsewhere that are not done so that you get results, they're done because: whatever. At Fox, you'll only do what's going to bring you results - and it's fun. Isn't it nice that you don't have to choose between getting results and having fun?
An impersonal experience?
Fox is very much a community of nice people. Many of them have made lots of friends at Fox - especially those who started off sitting at the back and hoping not to be noticed! It's friendly - no one's going to be showing off, and no one's going to be judging. You're welcome here. When you arrive for your first class, come 10 minutes early and the instructor will set you up on your bike and help you to settle in.
Feeling like everyone's fitter than you?
Some riders will be and some won't. Many of them will have started where you are now - as I did. But just ride your ride. No one is going to be looking at you thinking you should be working harder or that you're unfit - once the music starts, we want to ride, and to ride with you.
Working really hard and then not seeing results?
This is a big problem with many fitness classes, including spin. Sometimes you feel like you're putting all your effort in and think you should see better results than you are. Proper indoor cycling at Fox is different - in two ways:
We're happy you're here with us - but no one's going to be looking at you and judging you. The instructor is there to support you and help you achieve more. And the riders? The riders are busy concentrating on their own workout, just as you are!
Feeling like no one understands?
Most of our instructors started out as our members. Many of them started out not confident, not sure about indoor cycling, and had either experienced bad spin, or heard horror stories from friends. They get what it's like to be where you are now - and I get it too. I've been there, and I'll never forget what it's like. I can help you get results, and I want to help you.
What people tend not to like about classes elsewhere is not knowing what they're doing, not knowing how to ride safely, not knowing anyone, and being shouted at by the instructor.
Our instructors will want to meet you before the class to set you up on the bike so you're safe and comfortable. They'll give clear instructions during the session, and won't make you feel like the odd one out, they're here to support you.
I really hope I've put your mind at rest. I agree - there are spin horror stories out there - but not at Fox. We're here to help.
At Fox we bring you sessions that have been specially created to give you an effective workout - so you get more benefit in less time.
